How did it go? (and $250 Best Buy Giveaway!)

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Intel.

**Giveaway Closed!  Thank you for entering!! The winner of the giveaway is Peace Love and Pets!!  Congrats!**

I recently told you about the laptop that BlogHer sent me that was powered by the Intel® Core™ i5 processor and I'm back to tell you my experience with it! I can honestly say that it's pretty awesome! I've used older PC's before and I always noticed a lag time when opening programs and working on large spreadsheets but this laptop with the new processor definitely made a difference. For work, I was able to work on several spreadsheets at once and then even edit photos with those spreadsheets open and everything went quite smoothly! My screens didn't freeze and I didn't have to restart at all. I mean, if you've used a PC before, I'm sure you've had to deal with that at least a few times! I really liked how well the processor work because that meant that I could get my work done faster and spend more time with my husband and dogs!

Some info about the Intel® Core™ i5 processor:
Thanks to Intel® Turbo Boost Technology,1 the Intel® Core™ i5 processor automatically adapts to
whatever you are doing on your PC, dialing up speed to respond quickly to your needs. The Intel®
Core™ i5 processor: that’s smart performance with a speed boost. The Intel® Core™ i5 processor
also features Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology,2 which enables each core of your processor to
work on two tasks at the same time, delivering the performance you need for smart multitasking.
Don’t let too many open applications slow you and your PC down. Get smart performance now.

I also had a lot of fun using the Intel® Wireless Display which let me pull up my screen on our HDTV! It was actually a lot of fun sitting on the couch and reading through my favorite blogs through our TV instead of the laptop screen. Not sure my husband enjoyed it as much though. LOL!

Don't forget that you have a chance to win a $250 gift card to Best Buy!  All you need to do is to leave me a comment and tell me what you do help you multitask better or faster! And for an extra entry, tweet or blog about this giveaway!

That sounds like a great computer! Thanks for the review. I've been thinking about getting a new one to bring to class with me.

To help me multitask effectively I like to use a series of lists. I keep two running to-do lists - one for home and one for work. I like to limit the lists to one per day or one per week, depending on how intensive the tasks are.

Also, I am forgetful and I get really sidetracked by little things, random thoughts, etc. To help combat against this I always make it a point to keep a third list. This list is my capture-all. Anything that I think about doing -shopping returns, writing christmas cards, doing laundry, etc. will be put on this list. This ensures that I 1) stay on track, and keep doing whatever task I have already started on 2) don't forget anything important. Hope this helps!

I use virtual post-its to make a list of everything I need to get done... I even sometimes "cheat" and add stuff to the list I've already done JUST so I can cross them off! It's so nice to see a fully crossed out list at the end of the day!!

Multi-tasking has taken on a whole new meaning since I got my iPhone. I used to brag about my efficiency before ("Yes, that's right, I'm at the gym on the treadmill, on the phone with you, and on my laptop reading work emails--yep."), but that was nothing until I entered the realm of the smartphone. Now if I'm not doing at least 5 things at once, I feel like I'm being lazy!

Great giveaway.

I use http://teuxdeux.com/ to keep track of my tasks. Then I devote an hour or two to the most important thing that needs to be done that day. The next hour or two goes to other items on the list. If I still haven't finished, I go back to the most important thing until it's done.

I sewar to GOD that I am ADD at times. That is why in the morning I write down the things I want to get done (because I jump from task to task), then at the end of the day I write down what I didn't get done to add to my list for the following day. It really helps on those days where you feel like you got nothing done, and it helps to keep you in check.

Awesome give-away! I have been dying to buy a new lens for our camera. $250 will certainly help with that purchase.

To help me multi-task, I plan out what I can do in between 'projects.' For example, I don't like to blow dry my hair straight out of the shower - I like to let it air dry a little bit first. So, in the downtime I check my email or do other little errands I need to take care of online. By the time I'm finished, my hair is ready to be blow dried. I also stand in my closet and stare at my clothes while I brush my teeth so I can try to visualize what I'll wear.

I could really, really use this $250 gift card!!!

That means I would be able to go from simple tasks like producing documents in word to watching my favorite shows on the computer and probably not even notice speed was increased to handle the job! Whoo hoo!!

$250 would go towards a new computer because we definately need a new one :-)

I am a constant multi-tasker. I don't usually make lists but I always think about what I have to do and keep a mental list of what to do next and then what to after that. It's getting harder as I age.

I really can't do anything to help myself multitask faster. I'm doing the best I can already. Now, a faster processor... that's what I need! It would turbo charge me online!

Having a computer fast enough to load 10 or 15 tabs at once helps me multitask. I hate having to wait for the pages to load before I can work.

To help me multi-task better, I never leave one room of the house to go to another with empty hands. There are always things that need picked up & put away and I find this helps.

To multitask better, try to at least jot down notes, or open new tabs before you forget things..that way they're at least there.

tesashel said...

I keep a calendar for the important things I need to remember, and leave myself little notes to remind me of things.

This would help me multi-task...my current computer is so old...it can barely keep open 2 internet tabs.

To multitask effectively, I need to make a to-do list before I begin, with strict deadlines and objectives, so I can stay on track, and I remove all outside distractions by either going to a quiet work space or putting on my noise canceling headphones so I can give all of my attention to the work I need to get done. If possible, I also turn of my cell phone to avoid losing my train of thought. Thanks!

I use Google Calendar to help me remember dates and times fro things I would normally forget. I have so much housework to do, cooking and running errands that I need something to help simplify my life and make it faster since I can't find a way to add more hours to the day.

One of my resolutions for 2011 is to slow down a bit on the multi-tasking. I don't really need to read the news or emails while I eat breakfast or sew something while I'm "relaxing" watching tv. That said, I enjoy switching activities or chores and getting things done. I'm a list keeper and love "scratching off" what I've finished. mcgillrmcgill(at)charter(dot)net

I plan ahead to help in multi-tasking, grouping things together to get them done quickly. I'd love the $250 to use towards a new DSLR camera, would cut down on the time I photo edit from my little digi camera :)
